Dental Anesthesia

Hygienists who have taken an anesthesia course in school, are NOT immediately able to give injections. All hygienists must apply for a certification from the Board of Dentistry with a $50.00 application fee, proof of training from your graduating school and the criteria of the anesthesia class. The board will review your application and then will decide if additional information is needed or if the information supports that the school anesthesia program was taught to clinical competency.

Hygienists wanting to get certification can go to the Board of Dentistry website at http://health.state.tn.us/boards/dentistry for the exact information required by the board for certification. Call the Board of Dentistry at 1-800-778-4123 (Dea Smith) for more information.
